Editorial policies & privacy

The rules behind
the record.

Our policies guide authorship, editorial review, research integrity and responsible participation.

Authorship & AI use

Authors are accountable for the accuracy, originality and rights of their manuscript. Every listed author must consent to the submission. State contributions, funding and conflicts honestly. AI tools cannot take author responsibility. Disclose their use, verify generated claims and references, and do not submit fabricated data, results or citations.

Review & conflicts

Submitted manuscripts are available only to authorised authors, editors and assigned reviewers. Reviewers must assess relevant expertise and disclose conflicts before reviewing. A review records a recommendation on a specific version. Publications are labelled as preprints, with review records tied to the assessed version. Editors should obtain independent handling for research involving their own commercial interests.

Ethics & research rights

Document consent, data rights and ethical considerations before an experiment starts. Studies requiring independent ethics review must obtain it before collecting participant data. Do not upload personal datasets, credentials, exploit instructions against live targets or confidential third-party material to a draft or community discussion. The current manuscript workflow accepts text only.

Corrections & concerns

Report possible errors, plagiarism, rights violations or integrity concerns through the research contact page. Explain the exact record and evidence without exposing private information. Published versions are preserved; corrections create linked new versions. Correction, concern and retraction notices are recorded alongside the affected publication.

Access & licensing

Researcher access is currently invitation-only and free of charge. Each research record has its own licence; authors must hold the rights required to grant it. A licence for a paper does not automatically cover third-party datasets or code. Tool templates are reusable for research planning.

Share and republish Operational Science

ZEISMO permits websites, newsletters and blogs, including commercial publications, to list and link to our public articles and reproduce the ZEISMO-authored Operational Science briefs at /evidence in full with attribution. This permission covers the article text and published aggregate tables in those briefs.

Credit ZEISMO Research & Lab, retain the title, original publication date, record identifier and version, and include a visible link to the original article. Preserve the source statement, methods, findings and qualifications. Keep your commentary clearly separate and check the source for corrections. Do not imply that ZEISMO endorses your website or services.

Other papers, PDFs, code, third-party material and unpublished data retain their own stated terms. This permission does not grant rights to confidential records or permission to present the lab’s logo as an endorsement.

Automatic article listings

Subscribe to https://zeismo.org/feed.xml in an RSS reader or a website feed importer. It supplies titles, summaries, publication dates and original links for public articles and registered preprints. Use the item GUID as your stable identifier, preserve corrections in updated titles, and link each listing to its original source. Check at most hourly and cache your imported listings.

Each evidence brief provides copyable article HTML. Developers can also read the versioned aggregate collection JSON for the six brief records and their content. Use their stable record IDs and inspect the collection version for changes. This feed and download contain public material only.

Community conduct

Discuss evidence and methods respectfully. Do not harass participants, impersonate a person or institution, advertise unrelated services, or publish secrets and personal information. New discussions and replies are moderated before they appear to other participants. Moderators may withhold or hide content. Disagreement with a research claim is welcome when supported by reasoning and evidence.

Privacy & storage

The service stores account name and email, password hashes, manuscripts and revisions, reviews, discussion submissions, contact enquiries and security/activity records needed for the invited research programme. Invited accounts are approved by the owner. Account access and academic credentials are handled separately.

Reading the public pages does not create a research account or a session cookie. Essential cookies maintain protected sign-in sessions and request security for invited contributors. Web-server access and security logs may contain request metadata. This build does not include advertising or third-party analytics trackers. Lab file hashing runs locally in the browser. The optional reproducibility checklist saves checkbox choices in this browser’s local storage and offers a clear control.

Authorised operators can access service records for editorial work and support. Do not submit sensitive personal information. Invited-account and editorial data are retained for the research programme unless a valid deletion request or operational decision requires action. Public reader access does not enable anonymous submission forms or participant-response collection. Contact the centre for access, correction or deletion requests. Published research records may require separate treatment to preserve the scholarly record.

Preservation & availability

The archive retains version history and integrity fingerprints for registered publications. Encrypted ZEISMO.org recovery packages are copied to the dedicated Manchester research backup node with source-to-destination hash verification. Recovery activity is recorded in the protected operations log.
